When developing the first Skylanders game, action figures weren’t the only concept the designers were toying around with. Other rejected ideas were using the Wii’s motion controller, an eggshell peripheral, and wearing hats. Eventually, with the success of Guitar Hero’s fake guitar sales, they settled on collectible figurines. Almost all of the Skylanders from Spyro’s adventure were first designed by one man -Toys For Bob’s IWei Huang. While no one from the studio had experience in toy design before, Huang’s hobby in making steampowered robots in his basement proved invaluable for the over 30 playable characters in Skylanders. Cyclops Snail was a slime character in the original Skylanders that went through many iterations. He was renamed Tarclops and even produced as a toy and programmed into the game before being scrapped completely for poor design, and gave his powers to Zap, the water dragon.
