While House Forrester, the main characters of the Telltale Game of Thrones series are mentioned in passing in the Song of Fire and Ice novels, their rivals, House Whitehall, have even more obscure origins, being briefly mentioned in a 2010 RPG campaign guide.
The idea of the Song of Fire and Ice series came to George R.R. Martin in 1991 while he was a TV writer in Hollywood. He imagined dire wolves in the snow and began writing the first chapter, focusing on the realism and grittiness of the medieval times. After that, he started furiously drawing the sprawling maps of Westeros.
Many studios had approached George RR Martin to adapt his novel series into feature films, but having worked in Hollywood before, Martin remained skeptical. When David Benioff and D.B. Weiss pitched it as a TV series on HBO and correctly guessed Jon Snow’s yet-to-be revealed mother, Martin knew he found the right folks to adapt his novels.
