StarCraft’s most popular and influential custom map was Aeon of Strife, which can be considered the precursor to DOTA and by extension, the MOBA genre. The map’s creator was inspired by Future Cop: LAPD’s Precinct Assault mode which let players fight alongside NPC units.
Ever wanted to draw a Zergling using the power of math? Well now you can thanks to Wolfram Alpha! If you use the term “zergling-like curve,” the search engine will spit out a parametric equation that plots the coordinates of the alien critter. This works for Protoss and Hydralisk, too!
StarCraft was widely panned as “Orcs in Space” at E3 in 1996, and it paled in comparison to Ion Storm’s Dominion: Storm Over Gift 3, which was just one booth over. This intimidated Blizzard into completely revamping StarCraft, but later they found out that the E3 Dominion demo was fake -- Ion Storm employees were pretending to play a pre-rendered movie!
