In 2005, school officials in the Liaoning Province in China banned Death Note after several students altered their notebooks to resemble the Death Notes from the series and listed the names of enemies and even teachers in them. Albuquerque, New Mexico also held a vote to ban Death Note, but it was quickly voted down.
Unfortunately, the Death Note series has inspired several copycat crimes including a murder in Belgium where a Death Note-inspired notebook was left behind with the phrase "I am Kira" written in poorly translated Latin inside. Reminder: Murder is bad. And those guys were caught.
In the manga, unapologetic pop star, Misa Amane was drawn with jewelry and outfits using Crosses as a recurring motif, but these were changed to Fleur-de-lis for the anime to avoid religious backlash. Someone should have told the animators for the opening sequence though.
After L showcased some bizarre fighting moves in episode 18 of the Death Note anime, fans assumed he was using Capoeira, a Brazilian form of dance fighting. Though not his original intent, creator Tsugumi Ohba loved the idea and declared L's capoeira as canon.
Light and L are rivals in every sense, even in their choice of operating system! In Episode 2 of the Death Note anime, Light is using a PC and L uses a Mac! Will Light be the first to Control-Alt-Delete or will L have to Force Quit his investigation? Check it out.
