About The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth Videogame
Binding of Isaac: Rebirth is a remake of Binding of Isaac, a game originally designed by Edmund McMillan and Florian Himsl and launched in 2011 on Microsoft Windows.
Binding of Isaac Rebirth was released in November 2014 on PlayStation 4, Microsoft Windows, OS X & Linux.
Binding of Isaac is based on the biblical story of Isaac. In Binding of Isaac, Isaac and his mother live in a small home on top of a hill. Isaac enjoys simple pleasures like drawing and playing with toys, until his mother, who frequently watches religious television programs, hears a voice from “above” telling her that Isaac must be cleansed of his sins and saved. Isaac’s mother takes away all of his toys, and eventually hears another voice telling her that Isaac must be sacrificed.
In order to escape his mother, Isaac runs and stumbles upon a secret trapdoor that launches him into an unknown basement dudgeon world. In this world, Isaac must face monsters that represent his darkest fears and horrible childhood memories.
Isaac must face his internal darkness in this external, dungeon world.
Game Development:
The development of The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth began with the success of the original The Binding of Isaac. The game was developed for Nintendo DS, but was later rejected for its “questionable religious content.” Instead, The Binding of Isaac was developed and released on Microsoft Windows, Linux, Playstation 4, and a variety of other platforms.
Gameplay:
Similar to the original game, The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth launched as a 2D action-adventure game where the player controls Isaac and adventures around places such as the Necropolis, Catacombs and his mother’s own Womb. As the game progresses, Isaac must fight through many stages and bosses with 3 new final bosses including Mega Satan, The Lamb and the Angel boss, Uriel and Gabriel.
Reviews and Awards:
-Destructoid gave the game a 10/10 rating.
-GameRankings gave the game an aggregate score of 90.2%
-The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth received an 86/100 on Metacritic based on 10 critic reviews
Transcript:
There once was a boy named Isaac, who lived alone with his mother in a nice little home perched on top of a hill. Isaac and his mother have simple interests; he enjoys drawing and playing with toys, she enjoys watching religious television programs. This goes on for a while until his mother hears a voice from "above" telling her that the boy is full of sin and must be saved. She does so by taking away his toys, drawings, and even the clothes on his back.
This is not enough. The voice commands more is done and Isaac is then locked in his room. This is also enough. Doubting her faith, the voice tells Isaac's mother he must be sacrificed. Poor Isaac, hearing this and seeing his mother approaching with a kitchen knife, scrambles to find a way out until he stumbles upon a secret trapdoor hidden under the rug. Naked, scared, and with no other options, Isaac descends into this unknown basement dungeon filled with monsters and visions representing his childhood memories and fears. It's gonna get dark. Both figuratively and literally.
