One of the most common questions I get from new players is "Why do the towers always attack me?" or "Do the towers just choose targets randomly?" Well, Hopefully this tutorial will shed some light on how towers work, who they target, and why.
First of all ill say this. If you are the only thing close to the tower, obviously, the tower is going to target you. So dont do that.
However during a normal laning situation where you decide its time to push the tower, this is how it works.
The tower will always attack the closest thing to it, that is attacking it. This is why if you stand back and watch, the tower will wipe out all of the melee creeps before targeting the ranged creeps, and then seige units.
However you will at times be attacking the tower alogn with your creeps and it is important to know this. If the opposing sides creeps get within aggro distance of your creeps, your sides creeps will automatically target their creeps and thus YOU will be the closest thing to the tower attacking it, therefore the tower will target you instead of the creeps.
It is also important to note, that much like creeps, if there is an enemy hero within range and you auto attack that hero, the tower will automatically target you.
Hopefully this answers your questions about the way Towers work in Heroes of Newerth
