While France and Italy warred against each other, a new disease appeared to ravage the populace. A disease that had such a wide array of symptoms that expressed wildly differently in people to the point doctors called it The Great Imitator. Syphilis. A sexually transmitted disease that caused physical and psychological damage. A disease that exposed affairs (even one pope) and led to doctors beginning to advertise themselves as not only skilled but discreet.
