In late 2016, a 55-year-old man named Melvin Lawson, who goes by the handle Hoodnews24 online, shared his video “Thank God for My Reefer” which quickly became a sensation all over the internet. Not long after, Lawson’s clip where he’s seen crying after smoking some weed was transformed into the “Black Man Crying” and “How Old” Is Google Searches memes, which are still frequently used today.

Since we were curious to know more and uncover the truth behind his relatable reaction, we reached out to Lawson who agreed to chat and provide us with some more insight.
