Over the years, Disney Channel has launched the careers of countless child stars who would develop into some of the most influential adult names in entertainment - from Miley Cyrus and Olivia Rodrigo to Justin Timberlake and Zac Efron.
Some of the most popular 2000's Disney Channel and Nickelodeon programs centered on teenagers girls like Amanda Bynes and Ariana Grande, which highlighted traditional aspects of femininity; crafted by corporate expectations of what girlhood should look like. The extreme purity forced on these stars often resulted in public breakdowns, exposing that while these characters may have been empowering to young audiences, they could be harmful to those who portrayed them.
