There are different reasons to watch a movie. Do you want to see something unusual? There is a particular scene in The Operative where Diane Kruger does some amazing close up acting. It’s not pretty, but it’s pretty interesting. Ms. Kruger communicates her character’s ugly backstory with her eyes and expression. The Operative isn’t a thriller; it does seem to accurately portray the experience of refugee who never belonged anywhere to begin with. Sometimes movies are interesting because they offer you time and material to think about life's great puzzles. Maybe everyone has wondered what direction “home” was at one time or another? The big question in The Operative is, “Where is home?”. The Operative is not a conventional movie. In the end, you don’t find out about the physical survival of the heroine and her lover. You only find out about what she comes to believe in. The heroine Anne doesn’t want to escape, she wants to arrive.
