I know some think this is a comedy, and there are over the top scenarios and if you view it as a parody then boy did they ever emulate some real life biebers, lohans, and others I may not recognize. The acting was dead on solid. All around. If you take the struggles of the individual characters and exclude the parody, it is tragic. I loved it.

There is an underlying current of film noir that gives this movie a kind of poetic beauty, though it also has over the top moments of absurdity, I feel it very much made its point. Maps to the Stars has a surreal quality that makes madness bearable, just a hint of gothic romance/horror.

Julianne Moore's performance alone makes this worth watching. But there are plenty of twisted things happening here to engage the attentive viewer.. Cinematography is unique and combined with the performances creates a super cool, suspenseful tone. A must-see for fans of Cronenberg.
