Crash Bandicoot Game Development Fast Facts:
-Although only brought on to publish Crash Bandicoot; Universal Interactive Studios tried to take full credit of the game and originally leaked covers and press releases without the Naughty Dog name on it.
--Crash Bandicoot was created with vertex animation, rather than skeletal animation which allowed the animators to give Crash many character expressions, including blowing up like a balloon and being completely flattened.
Transcript:
Crash’s initial name was “Willy Wombat,” but there was already a Warner Brothers character of the same name, so the equally terrible names of Wez, Wuzzies, and Wizzy the Wombat were also pitched. Thankfully, Naughty Dog settled on Crash Bandicoot, for his tendency to break crates.
Fast Facts!
Universal Interactive Studios made attempts to take full credit for the game, even though they were only brought on to publish it. Before E3, they leaked box covers as well as press materials without the Naughty Dog name on any of it. Naughty, naughty!
Fast Facts!
Naughty Dog used vertex animation rather than skeletal animation for the bandicoot, so Crash essentially had no bones (or neck). This allowed animators to give Crash extensive character expressions and Looney Tune-like traits such as being completely flattened or blown up like a balloon.
