In 1996, a team of women's soccer players from New Jersey travels to Seattle for a national tournament. While flying over Canada, their plane crashes in the middle of nowhere. The girls and a few members of their staff have to survive while waiting for help.
But back in the present, we learn that the few survivors have been in the middle of this forest for more than 19 months and that this trauma hides some unspoken secrets. What really happened during these 19 months?
Shauna Shipman (Sophie Nelisse) was Jackie's (Ella Purnell) best friend and had an affair with Jackie's boyfriend Jeff (Warren Kole). As an adult, Shauna (Melanie Lynskey) is married to Jeff, but is not satisfied with her life as a stay-at-home mom.
Taissa Turner (Jasmin Savoy Brown) was determined to win the national championship by any means necessary. She injures her teammate Allie during soccer practice, who she thought was not good enough for the tournament. After the accident, she befriends Shauna. As an adult, Taissa (Tawny Cypress) is married to Simone and running for the Senate. Her son Sammy begins to exhibit strange behavior.
Jackie (Ella Purnell) was the captain of the Yellowjackets soccer team, Shauna's best friend and Jeff's girlfriend. She has a rivalry with Natalie (Sophie Thatcher).
Misty Quigley (Sammi Hanratty) is frequently bullied and rejected by her peers, who see her as creepy and weird. After the crash, Misty develops a fearsome charisma by manipulating everyone. As an adult, Misty (Christina Ricci) is a nurse in a nursing home and has lost none of her power.
Natalie (Sophie Thatcher) is the tough girl with the sultry reputation. After the crash, she develops her image even more. As an adult, Natalie (Juliette Lewis) returns to New Jersey after completing a rehab program paid for by Taissa, but has trouble staying sober.

Alongside Boyd are the Matthews family—newcomers who find themselves entangled in this harrowing situation after their RV crashes en route to what should have been a simple road trip. Jim (Eion Bailey) and Tabitha Matthews (Catalina Sandino Moreno) are not only fighting for their lives but also dealing with personal grief over losing their youngest child. Their journey resonates deeply with viewers as they navigate familial bonds while trying to escape from horrors they never anticipated. The characters’ struggles are relatable yet magnified within this extraordinary setting, making for compelling storytelling.
