Tony Soprano (James Gandolfini), an Italian-American gangster based in North Jersey, tries to balance his family life with his role as boss of the Soprano family.
Suffering from panic attacks, Tony engages in therapy sessions with psychiatrist Jennifer Melfi (Lorraine Bracco) intermittently throughout the series. At various points in the series, Tony finds himself at odds with his Uncle Junior (Dominique Chianese), his wife Carmela (Edie Falco), other Soprano family gangsters and the New York-based Lupertazzi family, putting his life in danger on several occasions. His partner is Silvio Dante (Steven Van Zandt).
