Gypsy Blanchard (Joey King) is wheelchair-bound due to an illness. As she grows older, her relationship with her mother (Patricia Arquette) begins to sour. She rebels when her mother, who has devoted her life to her care, becomes increasingly protective and abusive.
Gypsy learns that not only her mother Dee Dee has managed to deceive her, but also her family, friends and medical professionals.
