In the early 1980s, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Jade (Giovanna Antonelli), a young Muslim girl, is orphaned after the death of her mother and must travel to Morocco where her uncle Ali lives. The problem is that Jade lived in a country with a very different culture than an Islamic country. She has to learn all the new traditions and customs that come with it.
Back in Rio, a wealthy family, the Ferraz, goes on vacation to Morocco. The twin brothers Lucas and Diogo Ferraz (Murilo Benício), along with Leônidas (Reginaldo Faria), their father, and Dr. Augusto Albieri (Juca de Oliveira), a family friend and the twins' godfather who is a genetic scientist, visit Alí, a friend of Albieri. There, Lucas and Jade meet for the first time, and they fall in love at first sight. Jade decides to give up her religious duties for love.
Meanwhile, in Rio, Diogo dies tragically in a helicopter accident. Lucas and Leônidas are devastated by the news and Lucas' plans to run away with Jade are subsequently ruined.
Albieri, in his desperation, decides to use Lucas' cell to create the first human clone.
