La vecindad is a Mexican building where El Chavo del Ocho lives. He is a young boy, poor and without family, who takes refuge during the day in a barrel. He plays pranks with his friends and causes misunderstandings and arguments between the neighbors.
He is surrounded by many recurring characters, such as Don Ramón, La Chilindrina, Quico, Doña Florinda, Doña Clotilde, Profesor Jirafales, and Senor Barriga.
Don Ramón and his daughter, the Chilindrina, Doña Florinda and her son Quico, as well as Doña Clotilde, known as the witch of 71, because she lived at number 71, are tenants of the building.
Profesor Jirafales, in love with Doña Florinda, comes regularly to visit her with a bouquet of flowers. The latter, under the spell, invites him to have a cup of coffee at her place.
