Why do people love the indie jerkboy? Riverdale's Jughead

Riverdale's Jughead Jones be incredibly annoying, but is that what we like about him? Where the Jughead of Archie comics is a happy-go-lucky, food-motivated sidekick to his friend Archie, Riverdale’s version of the character is a brooding, pretentious writer who serves as the over-the-top series’ narrator. Jughead joins a long line of self-serious indie guys on TV and in movies, who grate on us with their sense of superiority and cultural obsessions: Dan Humphrey in Gossip Girl, Jack Berger in Sex and the City, Kyle in Lady Bird. So why do we love to watch the indie jerkboy?
