The Mansplainer in Pop Culture - Why He Mansplains

The portmanteau of man + explaining was coined in 2008, but the phenomenon has been around a lot longer, in both life and pop culture. And it’s striking that in many onscreen portrayals, mansplaining isn’t painted as a bad thing. So the invention of the term “mansplaining” is an amazing example of how language and the act of naming can radically shift the public perception of and conversation around a subject.
