Transcript:
Bungie started when University of Chicago students Alex Seropian and Jason Jones began making games funded by their friends and family. The titles were all for Macintosh computers and had moderate sales until they created the first person adventure game Pathways Into Darkness which enjoyed commercial and critical success, allowing them to open their first office in Chicago.
The studio moved on to bigger games, starting the shooter franchise Marathon which introduced the mechanic of rocket-jumping, the strategy series Myth, and Playstation 2 action-shooter hybrid Oni. Throughout this, Bungie developed games simultaneously for Mac and PC.
When Bungie first announced Halo: Combat Evolved, it was at the 1999 Macworld Expo and introduced by Steve Jobs himself. The next year after E3, Microsoft decided they didn't like sharing and announced their purchase of Bungie, setting Halo as an exclusive for the Xbox, which arguably saved the console in its early days. Halo went on to be the powerhouse franchise it still is today and Bungie developed numerous sequels up until 2010's Halo Reach when Bungie split off to become independent and make new, fresher games that are still about powerful space warriors and an intergalactic menace.
