Aux États-Unis, les températures battent tous les records. L’été dernier, la Californie a subi une sécheresse historique (près de 60° dans certaines zones). Du jamais vu depuis 1 200 ans. La pluie ne tombe plus, l’eau manque partout et les incendies ravagent chaque année tout l’ouest du pays. Malgré la catastrophe, de nombreux Américains vivent comme si de rien n’était. Gaspillage d’eau dans les jardins, les golfs, les fermes intensives, les parcs d’attractions, climatisation systématique… Et ce sont les populations les plus pauvres qui paient le prix fort des dégâts causés par cette consommation excessive d’eau. Certains agriculteurs coupent leurs arbres fruitiers car l’eau manque pour les arroser. Et de nombreux ouvriers travaillent désormais la nuit dans les champs afin de ne pas subir la canicule de la journée.
