Metrology--the science of measurement--has been on Adam's mind a lot for the past year, especially as he hones his machining skills and makes more use of his gauge blocks. Today, Adam revisits the topic of metrology as he tests a new measurement device--a vintage Johansson Mikrokator gauge that measures with a resolution of .00005" or 1-2 microns. That's orders of magnitude more precise than any caliper he uses, and Adam can't wait to put it to the test!
