William Shatner Goes Off On Star Trek: ‘Gene Roddenberry Would Be Turning In His Grave’

During the first night of SDCC’s Shatner on Shatner panel, the titular actor William Shatner had a few choice words about Star Trek and space.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Shatner spent plenty of the panel speaking about his career, especially Star Trek. When asked about newer generations of the show, he revealed that he believes no new shows in the franchise can rival his own. “I got to know [creator] Gene Roddenberry in three years fairly well,” Shatner said. “He’d be turning in his grave at some of this stuff.”

Shatner also spoke on Star Wars, though he’s apparently not a fan of the franchise. “Fuck Star Wars…. But not Mark Hamill,” he said.

His trip into space last year, which he took very seriously, also became a frequent topic of discussion during the panel. “I went, and I vowed that every moment that I spent in space, would not be playing around in weightlessness, but looking out the window and trying to get an impression.”

SDCC just kicked off yesterday, and it’s already been filled with announcements including a first look at Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves and an end to DC’s Snyderverse movies. In other Shatner SDCC news, the actor was also announced to be joining the cast of Masters of the Universe: Revolution.
