Donald Glover’s Mr. and Mrs. Smith Finds a New Mrs. Smith

Donald Glover has found his new co-star for Amazon Prime’s Mr. and Mrs. Smith series, as the actor revealed Maya Erskine is on board for the series.

In an interview with himself on Interview Magazine Glover said he’s still working on writing the show now that Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s replacement has been cast.

“She’s dope. It’s exciting,” Glover wrote. “I really love the show. I’m writing the finale now.”

Erskine is the co-creator and co-star of PEN15, a Hulu original that focuses on the hilarity of middle school awkwardness. It stars Erskine and Anna Konkle (who are in their 30s) playing 13-year-old versions of themselves, surrounded by a cast of actual 13-year-olds. The series made our list of the best under the radar streaming shows.

Glover and Waller-Bridge originally announced plans to create and star in a Mr. and Mrs. Smith series in February of last year. The two stars previously appeared together in Solo: A Star Wars Story, so the TV series was set to be a reunion of sorts. However, Waller-Bridge departed last September due to “a different creative vision for the series” than Glover.

The original Mr. and Mrs. Smith is a 2005 film starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. The two actors play a married couple who learn they are competing assassins that have been assigned to kill each other. We called the original “fun-filled escapist summer entertainment” in our review.
